‘Technologies must be used to improve living condition of people’

 Shillong: “In this technology-driven world, it becomes mandatory for appropriate technologies to be introduced in the society with a purpose to improve the living condition of the people at large,” said Member Secretary of the SCSTE RD West.

Participating in a seminar orgainsed to observe the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) at Synod College here on Friday, he said the State Council for Science Technology and Environment (SCSTE) has a wide range of appropriate technologies to be introduced in the society for uplifting living condition of people.

He informed the State government through the SCSTE had introduced many schemes to popularise science among young generation.

“Students should take advantage of these schemes which include Science Camps, Science Exposure Trips, Meet the Scientists Programmes and others”, West said.

Highlighting on the basis of IYC, the member secretary said the main objective of these programmes being conducted through out the globe is to focus on the achievements of Chemistry and highlight its importance in the day-to-day life.

It was informed that these kinds of programmes will culminate sometime in the month of November.

Others present at the function includes Head of Chemistry Dept, NEHU Prof B Marboh.
