Manipur CM meets PC

NEW DELHI: Manipur Chief minister O Ibobi Singh on Friday met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and expressed confidence that the 73-day-old blockade on two national highways connecting the state would be cleared soon.

“We are trying to resolve it as early as possible,” Mr Singh told reporters after meeting Mr Chidambaram here.

Mr Singh said the district reorganisation committee, which was constituted to look into the demands of the agitators who are blocking NH 53 and 39, is expected to give its report at the earliest. (UNI)

 ‘Govt violating fencing norms’

SILCHAR:Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Friday alleged that the Tarun Gogoi-led government in Assam was violating the fencing norms along the Indo-Bangla border.

The norms of constructing border fence within 137 metre from the zero-line was being violated, Mahanta, a former chief minister told newsmen after visiting the border in Karimganj sector.

“In some areas the fencing work has commenced much ahead of the required 137 metre mark into Indian territory”, he said and demanded action against the fencing construction companies who had violated the norms.(PTI)

 Scribes protest

GUWAHATI:Journalists and non-journalists of newspaper and news agencies staged a dharna here demanding early notification of Majhitia wage board recommendations by the Centre as part of the country-wide agitation. The journalists and non-journalists under the banner of Employees union of PTI, Guwahati, Assam Union of Working Journalist and Journalist Union of Assam, staged a hour-long dharna at Guwahati press club pressing for early notification of the wage board recommendations. The scribes then submitted a memorandum to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) president which was accepted by its general secretary Haren Das. (PTI)
