SHILLONG: A local court here imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the three persons who were booked under Section 110 (1)(b)(e) of the Meghalaya Police Act.
The section states that any person found intoxicated and riotous and found entering or remaining without sufficient cause in or upon any building belonging to the government or land or ground attached thereto, or on any vehicle belonging to the government can be booked.
SP (City) Vivek Syiem said on Monday the trio – Md Zafer Uddin Ahmed, Robin Sunar and Shiva Chettri – were arrested on Wednesday and a non-FIR case was registered against them at Sadar Police Station.
The court of L. Kharshiing, Judicial Magistrate First Class, convicted them on Wednesday and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each.
In another incident, a drunken person found driving without licence was fined Rs 2,500 by a local court. Syiem said Garlandforth Kharsyntiew was arrested and booked under Section 180/181/185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, on August 16.
A non-FIR case was registered against him at Mawlai Traffic Branch and he was forwarded to the court of L Kharshiing, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Shillong Court, where he was convicted and fined.
The SP said the owner of the vehicle, M Sunn, is also liable under Section 180 of the MV Act for allowing Kharsyntiew to drive despite the fact that he did not meet the provisions of Section 3 or Section 4 of the MV Act.
