Demand for implementation of revised minimum wages

SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has alleged that the various business houses, show rooms, malls etc., in the city are not following the revised rate of minimum wages prescribed by the Labour department.
In a statement issued here on Thursday KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah said that the employees’ remuneration remained the same despite the revised minimum wages. Taking note of the “malpractice”, the KHNAM has urged the Labour department to direct all shops, malls and even government offices to follow the revised wages which can be notified through the media.
The KHNAM also alleged that certain business houses like Reliance at Lachumiere and Pantaloons near Madan Iewrynghep are operating without trading licenses issued by the KHADC. The KHNAM youth body sent a memorandum to the KHADC CEM PN Syiem in this regard urging him to examine the case and prevent any illegal activity.
