TURA: The Garo Hills United Alliance (GHUA), the opposition in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), on Tuesday condemned the National People’s Party-led executive committee of the Council for non-payment of dues to the employees and asked the government to consider administration rule.
The striking MDCs from the opposition GHUA said on Tuesday, “GHUA strongly supports the staff of GHADC in their fight for justice.”
They also sought intervention of the State government and the Governor in solving the issue.
“It is a violation of human rights. We ask the government and the Governor to take appropriate measures to end this injustice even to the extent of exploring the possibility of bringing in an administration rule in the council,” said Rupert M Sangma, Tura MDC, who issued the release on behalf of GHUA.
GHUA also demanded the resignation of chief executive member (CEM) of GHADC Denang T Sangma, “who has failed to provide the rightful dues of the staff”.
Pointing out that the executive committee of the council has failed to provide financial report even after expiry of four months, Sangma said, “There is no transparency in the council and even a democratically elected representative of the people is denied information. The opposition is kept in the dark as far as the financial status and administration is concerned. We strongly condemn this.”
