Nagaland home min woos foreign investors in UK

Kohima: Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen has tried to woo the captains of the European industry to come and invest in the state while expounding on the state’s unique selling points during the Interactive Session on ‘Opportunities for UK Companies in Eastern and North Eastern India’.

Official sources here today said the home minister was attending the London meet accompanied by an official delegation which includes MLA Toshipokba, Commissioner and Secretary, Industries and Commerce LH Thangi Mannen, and Managing Director, Nagaland Hotels Limited B Longkumer.

Imchen pointed out that Nagaland is a veritable Botanical Garden with already three entries in the Guinness Book of World records with the hottest chilly, the tallest rice plant, and the tallest Rhododendron tree.

He further said there had been tremendous increase in other horticultural products, which were basically organic and chemical free, while also underlining floriculture as another emerging business enterprise in the state.

The minister also pointed out that the state’s rich mineral resources still lie largely untapped and said the mountains of chemical grade limestone, the huge reserves of coal, marble and decorative stones, along with the magnetite of nickel-cobalt-chromium, were yet to find takers for their commercial exploitation.

On the wide range of various species of bees such as rock bees, Apis cerena bees and the Trigona and Melipona (Stingless) bees that are found both in the wild as well as reared in homestead hives, he said the Nagaland Government has established the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission with the focus of drawing up a roadmap for promotion and development of honey.
