TURA: A teenager and two others who were kidnapped from Kherapara on August 27 were killed even after the ransom was paid. Their decomposed bodies were found in a jungle on Thursday, police said.
Fifteen-year-old Suliman Sheikh, son of a butcher from Tura Bazaar, and his two friends – Jittu Rishi (32) and Balseng (28) – had gone to Kherapara market on August 27 morning to buy goats. Police said the kidnappers told the teenagers that they were goat-sellers and lured them with a good deal.
The kidnappers had called Suliman’s parents and demanded Rs 30 lakh, but scaled down the amount to Rs 3 lakh when his father told them about the family’s economic condition.
The kidnappers’ gang came to Daranggre area near Chunmati on Sunday afternoon to take the ransom amount and promised to release the trio on the same day.
However, the abductors stopped communicating with the family after receiving the money. As the families of the victims did not file a missing report, West Garo Hills Police started a covert investigation and soon identified the main suspects.
The police on Thursday arrested four of the main gang members – Tengrak B Marak (25), son of Polen Ch Marak of Ganipara in West Garo Hills, Emil M Marak (24), son of Armeth Ch Sangma of Rongbetgre (West Garo Hills), Galsengbath M Marak (19), son of Pangsin Ch Sangma of Surunangre village and
Kristone M Sangma (20), son of Gajing M Marak of Wakolnangre in West Garo Hills.
The accused confessed that they killed the trio on Sunday after taking the money. The three were stabbed to death with daggers and their bodies were left in the forests of Diplipara near Dumnikura, which falls under Barengapara police station.
The decomposed bodies of the victims were found after the killers led police to the site of the murders. “There are other accomplices of the gang and we are on their trail,” said West Garo Hills police chief Mukesh Kr Singh.
