SHILLONG: The state government has clarified that there was no order from Union Horne Ministry for fencing at zero line as appeared in a section of the press.
In a written statement in reply to a call attention tabled by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said in Assembly on Friday that the actual position is that except in the case of human settlements/habitations, the fencing has to be constructed at 150 yards from the zero line.
“Only where human settlements/ habitations exist within the 150 yards stretch or along  the zero line, the fence can be constructed within 150 yards or as close to the zero line as  may be feasible, with the consent of the Government of Bangladesh. The BSF takes up the negotiation with their counterparts from Bangladesh for obtaining their consent,” Sangma added.
