SHILLONG: With the rise in number of trafficking in the case, it becomes imperative for people to act instead of waiting for help, said East Khasi Hills traffic SP N.K Syiem on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering at a seminar on ‘Human trafficking among the youths of Meghalaya’ at St Mary’s College on Saturday, Syiem said people only talk about atrocities “but they need to come forward and do something to stop the menace and not wait for others to act”.
The SP lauded the college and Department of Mathematics for highlighting such a sensitive issue, which and said it was surprising that trafficking menace persists even at this time when people have made so much progress.
Principal Mary Harriet reasoned that if students miss classes and roam around in the city then chances of them falling prey to miscreants are high. The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor, was also part of the seminar.
