SHILLONG: The two-laning project of the western bypass of Shillong is yet to make progress due to several factors, including non-issuance of NOC by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The status report of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) states that the two-laning will begin from 60.900 km of NH 40 and culminate at 87.850 km of the highway.
The NHIDCL status report also says that the issue of land acquisition has been taken up with the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and the submission of estimate for utility shifting and land acquisition is still pending.
Estimation of land required for the first 10 Km has been prepared by the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, the status report added. However, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department is yet to notify the same due to non-receipt of consent from the KHADC.
The status report also said that the remaining stretch has to be realigned and land acquisition will be initiated only after finalising the DPR. Bids from four parties have been received. The 42.405-km road project is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 258.37 crore.
