SHILLONG: Despite the MUA-II’s win against the no-confidence motion in the Assembly, Congress leader and KHADC chief PN Syiem is still disillusioned with the present system of governance.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Syiem said the no-confidence motion brought by the Opposition had rightly pointed out that the State government had miserably failed on all fronts.
“How will we have confidence in the government since it (government) had brought the dual-post matter and they wanted to spoil the important issue of the State,” Syiem said.
The KHADC CEM said there is a need to take up economic issues, unemployment problem, mining policy and others in the right forum that can thrash out an agenda for the future.
“In this context, it is time for all politicians to come forward and set their agenda clear so that we can get a government with a right direction in 2018,” Syiem said.
According to Syiem, the people have lost faith in the present system resulting in the overall collapse of governance. “Now we are at a loss and to resurrect from this, there is a need to have fresh collective thinking aimed at a solution which can liberate the State from the present chaos,” he said.
“My idea is to have a people’s democratic forum that can address the concerns of students, business community, labourers and traders, among others,” he added.
Asked about the formation of a new political party, Syiem said the party comes secondary as the immediate focus should be on revamping the system.
