SHILLONG: The Sordar of Raid Kyrdem, Pholning Makdoh who has been accused of embezzlement, has filed an FIR against Heling Lawai, a former headman of Klew village. Lawai had alleged that the Sordar, who is also a former headman of Klew, misappropriated funds meant for the Total Sanitation Campaign as it did not reach any of the beneficiaries till date.
In a press conference in the city on Wednesday CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said, “I had filed an FIR with the Khapmara Police Outpost in Umroi against Makdoh
on September 13 and it was registered only on September 21 evening at Umiam PS.”
Aggrieved villagers who were present at the press conference alleged that they do not possess any job cards under the MGNREGA scheme. Kharshiing further alleged that the villagers have been living without electricity. “They are living in abject poverty, yet they do not possess any job card,” she said.
It may be reminded that as per an RTI query, which she had submitted in the Block Development Office at Umsning, Makdoh, who was then headman of Klew, had received Rs 1,47,960 for construction of 137 toilets under the scheme for 2010-2011.
The villagers who were denied the benefit of the scheme included Kjip Khriam, who recently expired, Deibasshon Tangsang, Prolet Nongrum, Blassius Nongrum, Hestina Tangsang and Drik Mukhim, among others.
