Guwahati: Congress vice-president and MP, Rahul Gandhi will appear in person before a court here on September 29 next in connection with a defamation case filed against him on behalf of the RSS.
Congress leader and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday informed that the Congress vice-president decided to appear before the court in connection with the defamation suit after he had consulted the leadership of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
Kamrup ( metropolitan) chief judicial magistrate (CJM) here had issued summon to Gandhi on August 6 last to appear before the court on September 29 this year.
The RSS filed the case against the Congress leader after he had alleged that the RSS conspired to prevent him from visiting revered vashnavite monastery, Barpeta Satra in Barpeta town of western Assam when he paid visit to the state in December 12, 2015.
Then Assam chief minister and Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi too alleged that the RSS had planned to prevent Congress vice-president, Rahul Gandhi from entering into famous Barpeta Satra (a vaishnavite monastery) during latter’s visit to the state. However, the monastery denied any pressure from the RSS against the visit of Rahul Gandhi who, in fact, visited the sanctum sanctorum of the monastery at around 3-30 P.M. on that day.
Peeved at the `baseless allegation’ of the Congress vice-president, the RSS filed a defamation case against him in the CJM court here.
