MANCHESTER: Roberto Mancini has spoken of his plans to remain at Manchester City for “many years” as he looks to pledge his long-term future to the mega-rich club.

The Manchester City manager, who succeeded Mark Hughes in December 2009, has less than two years remaining on his current contract.

Yet after guiding Manchester City to their first trophy success in 35 years by winning the FA Cup last season, he further strengthened his position by leading them into the Champions League.

With Manchester City now top of the Premier League, having made their best league start since 1897, the Italian has also boosted his power base over his handling of Carlos Tevez’s alleged refusal to come on as a substitute against Bayern Munich last month.

Mancini, who revealed discussions over a new contract have not begun and are not a priority, says he wants to continue the revolution at the Etihad Stadium for a while longer yet.

He said: “After this year I have one more year and I don’t have a problem with this. “I haven’t talked to the club but at the moment it is not important.

“My feeling here is good. I would like to stay here but in football every week it can change.

“If you lose two or three games, that can change all – but we are working well.

“I started to work here two years ago, I have worked hard to build a good team.

“I would like to stay here another three or four years because I think at this moment Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world.” Mancini, who did complain last summer about a lack of control at the club, has certainly been backed up in the transfer marked with vast amounts of funds being provided from owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak.

He has opened the chequebook having spent millions of pounds on new signings, with this arrival seeing him recruit the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and David Silva within the last year. (Agencies)
