JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturing Association (JHCMA) has sought clarification on the establishment of integrated check posts and weighbridges in Meghalaya.
The JHCMA has also demanded that the weighbridges at 7th Mile and Byndihati be removed.
“Based on the Supreme Court order, the Government is supposed to make clear as to how many check posts and weighbridges are required to be operational in Meghalaya,” the JHCMA said in a letter submitted to the Transport Minister HDR Lyngdoh during his inspection to Weighbridges in Jaintia Hills.
According to the JHCMA, the government is yet to take any steps to implement the Court order as currently, there are multiple check posts and weighbridge operational on the same route resulting in multiple weighing of the same vehicle and collection of money.
The association also alleged that at present taxes are being collected arbitrarily and receipts for the same are not given most of the time.
The JHCMA requested the transport minister to take decision at the earliest to ascertain how many weighbridges are relevant along the National highway.
The Association is of the view that weighbridges should be set up only at exit points.
