CM extends ‘helping hand’ to differently-abled in Iewduh

SHILLONG: In what turned out to be a pleasant turn of events, a differently-abled man who had come to Bara Bazar, the State’s biggest market, in search of a job drew the attention of none other than Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who promised to provide him benefits of a government scheme.
While the chief minister and his entourage were heading from one pocket of Iewduh to another during his maiden visit to the market after assuming the chair, he noticed the person who was not able to walk and hence approached him to inquire about him.
After interacting with him for a short while, the chief minister asked him to avail the scheme meant for persons with disabilities.
Since the man could not get up, the chief minister sat near him and enquired about his native place.
The person replied that he hailed from the faraway village of Nongthliew and had come to the market in search of a job.
Health Minister Roshan Warjri, who was accompanying the chief minister, spoke to the man and conveyed to the chief minister that Nongthliew falls under Sohiong constituency.
The chief minister further asked whether he derived any benefits from the Social Assistance for Persons with Disabilities, under which Rs 500 per month is paid to a PWD.
When the man replied that he had never heard of the scheme, the chief minister assured asked him not to be anxious and asserted that he would do the needful to provide him with the benefits of the scheme.
