SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday allowed the students of Kalpataru Academy to register with the institute on Friday for the academic year 2016-2017. It, however, fixed the case after Puja vacation and cautioned that the petitioners should not take it for granted that this interim arrangement would give them protection if the petition fails.
K. Paul, counsel for the petitioners, K.P. Bhattacharjee, government advocate for the State and R. Jha, counsel for the Board of Higher Secondary School Education, Delhi, were present during the hearing of the case on Thursday.
The counsel for the petitioners submitted that September 30 has been fixed for registration of the candidates for the academic year 2016-2017 and if they are not allowed to register themselves, they will suffer immense loss, to which the State counsel had an objection.
However, Judge S.R. Sen allowed the students to register themselves with the Academy, considering the fact that the matter is still pending and when it will be decided, it may be too late to allow the students to register themselves and then the Court will have no way to compensate them except for a heartfelt regret.
“Thus, for the interest of justice      and protection to the career of the students, I hereby direct the respondent to allow to register the names of the students who are found qualified for the academic year 2016-2017 and that the registration will remain valid and depend upon the outcome of this instant writ petition,” the order said.
