SHILLONG: A youth from West Jaintia Hills’ Shangpung village was arrested on Saturday evening for allegedly raping a minor girl in the village.
The 13-year-old victim’s mother, who was away when the incident took place, filed an FIR at Raliang outpost, West Jaintia Hills, on Saturday leading to the arrest of the accused identified as Yoolang Ymbon.
Police said the mother has alleged that Ymbon raped her minor daughter around 9 pm on September 25. The accused, who was the victim’s neighbour, entered the house when the lights were off and asked for water before committing the crime. A lady who stays with the victim was nearby when the incident took place.
The mother, who works in another place, comes home only on weekends. She was informed about the incident when she came home on Saturday after which she lodged the complaint.
