Thieves target shoppers in city

SHILLONG: Several cases of theft has been reported in the heart of the city, which has been turned into a hunting ground for miscreants in the past few days.
Thieves and pickpockets are targeting shoppers during the festive season in Police Bazaar and several cases of theft have been reported to the police. On Thursday, unknown miscreants stole one handbag containing cash Rs. 25,000 one cell-phone, ATM card and other documents belonging to Aloka Singha from Police Bazaar. On the same day, 6 around 11.15 AM, unknown miscreants stole Rs. 50,000 belonging to Haskur Thapa, from UCO Bank in the area.
In addition, there were also reports of stealing of cell phones from the area.
Police said that on October 6, unknown miscreants stole one cell-phone belonging to Valareen Kharrubon from Police Bazaar. A day before that, a cell-phone belonging to Carynthea Pakyntein from Police Bazar was stolen by miscreants.
Meanwhile, cases of stealing were also reported from other parts of the state.
Police said that on October 6 at about 6.30 PM, unknown miscreants stole one LCD TV and one laptop from the residence of Govind Shah at Nongmynsong, Shillong.
In West Garo Hills, Temish A Sangma lodged a complaint that on October 5 at about 10 AM, unknown miscreants stole her bag containing cash of more than two lakhs from Tura Bazar.
On the night of October 4, unknown miscreants broke into the shop of Sarita Devi at Soo Kilo in East Jaintia Hills and stole cash Rs. 32,000, one laptop and recharge vouchers valued around Rs. 2,46,000.
