SHILLONG/ TURA: Former ANVC-B chairman Bernard Rimpu N Marak on Saturday met Home Minister H.D.R Lyngdoh at Tura Circuit House and apprised him of the unwarranted delay in disbursing rehabilitation packages sanctioned by the Centre to surrendered rebels.
Marak also alleged that political leaders were kept in the dark about the status of the package as well as issues related to Garo Hills.
“The home minister expressed surprise about the delay and said he was not aware of the issue since the status of the package was not known to him. Something seems to be wrong in the system,” said ANVC-B general secretary Jakrik Wareng.
Terming the delay as “unwarranted”, Marak told the Minister that several distress       letters were sent to him, to which Lyngdoh said he never received any of the letters. The Home Minister has assured that he would take up the matter on a priority basis.
Marak also told the Home Minister that fake ANVC-B members were posing as officers and trying to divide the group by facilitating deserters and including their names in the outfit’s cadre list even though they had already surrendered to the government.
Marak also requested the Minister to hold regular meetings with both parties for clarity on the processing of packages, which Lyngdoh agreed to consider.
