State Convention Centre retaining wall comes down

SHILLONG: The retaining wall of the State Convention Centre in Bivar Road here collapsed in the early hours of the morning on Thursday.
Director of Tourism R.C. Sohkhlet claimed that the wall collapsed due to the continuous rain that lashed the city in the last few days.
The Meghalaya Government Construction Company Limited (MGCC) had undertaken the construction of the State Convention Centre which was subsequently handed over to Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation.
Officials are yet to find out the exact reason for the collapse  even as questions are being raised over the quality of materials used in the the construction of the retaining wall.
