KHADC chief PN Syiem to skip meeting

SHILLLONG: The MPCC executive committee will meet on Friday to discuss the strategy for the by-polls to the seven district council seats.
All the MLAs, MDCs and other party functionaries of the Congress are expected to take part in the meeting which will be chaired by party president D.D Lapang, party sources said on Thursday.
Winning the by-polls is crucial for the party which is facing anti- incumbency and rebellion from within the party.
The meeting will discuss the ways and means of campaigning for the party candidates to ensure their victory, a party leader said.
However, sources said KHADC CEM and Mawsynram legislator P.N Syiem will not take part in the meeting though he is part of the executive committee.
When contacted, Syiem said since there is a meeting of KHADC on Friday, he would not be able to attend the MPCC meeting.
Earlier, Syiem while terming the by-election as unnatural had said that he would keep aloof from the campaign for the seven Congress candidates since the election was forced upon the people and the candidates.
The by-election was necessitated following the implementation of the amended dual post Act, 2015 in October last year which resulted in seven legislators quitting the posts of MDCs except Syiem.
