SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party said on Wednesday former Cabinet minister and party leader JA Lyngdoh did not quit the party due to any internal conflict.
Reacting to a query, UDP working president Jemino Mawthoh said, “Lyngdoh thought the result might not be positive for him if he contests the election from Mawphlang constituency again. He told me that he wants to contest from Jaiaw constituency (North Shillong).”
UDP leader T. Chyne seconded Mawthoh saying Lyngdoh resigned in a cordial way at a party programme.
Lyngdoh, who joined UDP on September 11, 1997, submitted his resignation letter to party president Donkupar Roy. He was the UDP vice-president. He had won three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2008 from Nongspung constituency.
