Marwein to focus on decongesting Harijan Colony

SHILLONG: Outgoing FKJGP president Joe Marwein is all set to take a plunge into the political arena as he gears up to contest the 2018 assembly election from North Shillong Constituency.
At a function organised to bid him farewell at the Jaiaw Shyiap Lumpyllon Community Hall here on Wednesday, the pressure group leader said as a politician his foremost task would be to decongest the Harijan Colony which has over the years added to the woes in the roads leading to Iewduh.
“We have been talking about the problems associated with Harijan Colony since 1978 but no action was taken in this regard. My goal is to streamline the colony in a peaceful manner with an aim to decongest the traditional market,” Marwein said.
Meanwhile, Wellbirth Rani, who was elected the new president of the FKJGP, stressed on the need to maintain unity among “fellow NGOs” so as to have positive impact on the State.
Dundee Khongsit was elected the new general secretary of the federation on the occasion.
Among others who spoke were KSU president Daniel Khyriem and HNYF president GH Kharshanlor.
