JOWAI: The Core Committee of the Foreign Trades Chamber of Commerce and Mineral and the War Jaintia Limestone and Boulders Exporters of Mineral Association have aired varied views on the implementation of the weighbridge of the Transport department on Thursday.
While some of the members of the Core Committee are in favour of the weighbridge, others are against it. Those who opposed the weighbridge instructed the drivers of thousands of trucks transporting limestone and boulders to Bangladesh not to enter the Amsarin weighbridge. According to reliable sources, the Amsarin weighbridge is owned by some prominent politicians of Jaintia Hills, and a legislator uses the name of Deipormi Dkhar to operate the weighbridge.
“We have heard that one of the MLAs is the proprietor,” said a member of the Core Committee. They also criticized the state government for adopting different yardsticks on the weighment.
“How come only trucks coming from Jaintia hills are being weighed, but not those coming from East Khasi Hill,” he said.
“The weighbridge should not be operated, and if the government continues to show favoritism, we will knock the door of the Court,” he said.
