SHILLONG: The Central Puja Committee has urged revellers to avoid bursting high decibel crackers during Kali Puja and Diwali to avoid noise pollution and even accidents.
In an advisory issued here on Thursday, CPC general secretary J.L Das also urged the public to avoid bursting of crackers or firework display in and around Kali Puja pandals, narrow lanes, roads and public places to avoid accidents. The advisory also forbids bursting crackers and making fireworks in silent zones like hospitals and educational institutions.
Stating that precautionary measures should be taken while lighting crackers and fireworks, the CPC also urged people to use Indian-made crackers and decorative lights.
According to the committee, cleaning drives should be carried out after bursting of crackers in streets, lanes and vacant spaces. It also urged people to follow the instructions issued by the district administration and the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
