Guwahati:  Assam remembered and paid tributes to the victims of serial blasts of 2008 on Sunday, pleading to fight terror and ensure no recurrence of such dastardly attacks in the future.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the blast sites at Guwahati and paid floral tributes to the deceased.
Affirming his government’s commitment to ensure safety of all citizens, Sonowal urged the people to be united to defeat the violent forces who try to disturb peace.
Top state government officials also accompanied the chief minister in paying tribute to the victims of the incident.
Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi also visited the Ganeshguri blast site in Guwahati and paid tribute to the deceased.
All-faith prayer meetings were organized at different parts as families of those killed or injured remembered the black day with wet eyes.
The government as well as various organisations have urged the people of the state to refrain from bursting crackers on Sunday night and instead mark Diwali by lighting earthen lamps in memory of the victims. About 100 people died and over 500 injured in serial blasts by militant outfit NDFB that had ripped the northeastern state on October 30 in 2008. (UNI)
