SHILLONG: The State police are still clueless about the nine traders from Assam who were abducted by ASAK rebels led by former GNLA commander Reding T Sangma from a village in South Garo Hills last Friday.
The nine abductees are all small-time traders from Assam’s Mankachar town and they were on their way to a weekly ‘haat’ at Dumnikura village in South Garo Hills.
Acting DGP SB Singh said the Mankachar SP visited South Garo Hills on Saturday to discuss the operation and to secure the release of the traders.
Flush-out operations
SF-10 commandoes and other units are combing the dense forests of South Garo hills, particularly the Chokpot-Gasuapara-Sibbari belt, to locate the nine abducted Assam traders who were taken away at gunpoint by the ASAK rebels from near Dumnikura village.
The nine traders are Vakil Mazumdar of Barmanpara in Mankachar, Abdul Sabur of Jordanga, Noor Alam of Kakripara, Samaroh Sheikh, Khoka Sheikh and Rokib Hossain (all hailing from Kakripara), Abdul Rahim from Bagapara and Mazahar Sargam of Misi in Dalu, West Garo Hills.
