SHILLONG: The Kisan Morcha of the BJP’s State unit has denied allegations that the Centre has declared December 25 as ‘Good Governance Day’.
Rocky Marak, the general secretary of BJP Meghalaya Kisan Morcha, said “some newsmongers with malevolent intentions are trying to destabilise the perception of the citizens” with a communal agenda.
“We wish to counter and enlighten the people of Meghalaya and all the Christians who are against the vicious propaganda that December 25 is being declared as Good Governance Day by the Government of India. There has been no declaration by the Centre as distorted by the news article in The Times of India. The newspaper assumedly declared that schools are to remain open on December 25,” he said.
Marak confirmed that there was no directive from the CBSE and all schools will follow the usual vacation.
He also said the declaration was to conduct an essay competition on December 24 and 25 and CBSE has not declared or directed any school to remain open on the said dates.
“The only declaration was that since Navodaya is a residential school and many non-Christian students of these schools remain there on December 25 and it is only a voluntary participation for them,” he said.
According to BJP, no school in India will be forced to remain open on December 25 and no child or student will be forced to participate in any competition on the day.
