SHILLONG: The ruling People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) coalition in the KHADC will approach the governor for his intervention in expediting the appointment of a pro tem chairman of the council as well as in the Village Administration Bill (VAB), which is in cold storage for a long time.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting on Thursday, KHADC CEM PN Syiem said, “The KHADC has already submitted a reply to the 12-point queries posed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) through the State government. It is not known whether the State government has forwarded the Council’s reply. We will meet the Governor regarding the delay in the VAB.”
Asserting that bills passed by the Council are lying pending, Syiem said the delegation would apprise the governor of the delay of the District Council Affairs (DCA) and other line departments of the state government to expedite the approval of bills passed by it.
In a meeting of the KHADC on Thursday, it was also decided that the resignations of three Congress MDCs from the post of deputy CEM and executive members would be approved.
Meanwhile, reacting to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s comment that the KHADC chief cheated on the indigenous (jaitbynriew) people, Syiem said, “The allegations are baseless and as to who cheated on the jaitbynriew will be seen on the outcomes related to the VAB.”
Syiem questioned the role of the State government which, he said, had advised the governor to send the VAB to MHA and asserted that a District Council Bill as never been sent to MHA.
On the suggestion of the government to recall the Bill, he said, “We would rather wait for MHA’s response before recalling the Bill.”
