SHILLONG: The National Book Trust, in collaboration with the North Eastern Council, will conduct a certificate course on book publishing for the first time in the city from November 15.
The National Book Trust (NBT), which is an apex body under the HRD Ministry, will conduct classes at the NEC Secretariat Press Room in Nongrim Hills.
Among the lecturers are Sridhar Balan, who has worked with publishing houses like Oxford University Press and Ratnasagar, A.K Sinha, former director in the Directorate of Printing in New Delhi, and Suresh Chand, who was a Special Officer in the Ministry’s book promotion and copyright division, among others.
Course coordinator Narinder Kumar said the course will start with a brief introduction to the history of publishing. Later, focus will be on business and finance of the publishing world, authorship, printing technology, book design and various aspects of book publishing.
As the publishing world is undergoing tremendous changes, the course content will also include electronic publishing (e-books).
The course is being conducted for students, professionals and also those who are interested in book publishing, especially those interested in writing and reading.
