NONGPOH: The Umsning unit of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has opposed the excise superintendent’s move to clear the licence of a wine shop near NH-6 in violation of excise rules that prohibits liquor sale near hospitals, educational and religious institutes as well as national highways.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, president of RBYF Umsning G.K Lymphuid said the former superintendent of the excise office in Nongpoh had cancelled the licence of SS Wine Shop, which is located around 50m away from the national highway. As per the law, it should be beyond 100m from highways.
“However, the new superintendent has given nod to the wine shop that is violating the new excise rules,” Lymphuid said.
The federation has submitted a letter to the DC and the assistant commissioner of excise seeking immediate intervention in cancelling the licence of the liquor shop in Umnget.
Appreciating the State government’s new excise rules, Lymphuid said RBYF “will not hesitate to take its own course of action” if the licence is not cancelled.
