SHILLONG: The banks here are cautious about the use of indelible ink due to the upcoming by-poll to the seven seats of KHADC and JHADC scheduled for December 13.
The indelible ink is yet to arrive in the North East, including Meghalaya, but once it is used there will be confusion among voters of the seven district council constituencies.
The indelible ink is currently used on the index fingers of the right hand in certain metro cities.
The move is to ensure one-time exchange of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes of up to Rs 4,500 and also to prevent using other people’s accounts to exchange or deposit notes.
A senior State Bank of India official said it would ensure that there is no conflict with the upcoming by-poll whenever the indelible ink is used by the bank.
“Since we have not received the indelible ink, the question does not arise now, but when such a situation comes, we will have to take a decision about the constituencies which are going to the polls,” the official added.
