Crackdown on roadside drinking

SHILLONG: Continuing its crackdown on people drinking along road side and creating public nuisance, police personnel from Sadar police station on Wednesday apprehended seven boys and a girl while they were consuming alcohol in a vehicle (Maruti Swift) near the Meghalaya Secretariat. The apprehended persons will be dealt with under the Meghalaya Police Act. Police are maintaining strict vigil to ensure that the sale of alcohol in Keating Road does not resurface. It may be mentioned that the Sadar Police has over a period of time realized a fine of over Rs 50 lakh from those consuming alcohol and creating nuisance in public places.
