Extortionist shot in East Garo Hills

TURA: A highway robber was shot dead by a police patrol team while he was reportedly attempting to extort money from passing coal trucks in East Garo Hills on Thursday morning.
A three-member gang of dacoits displaying crude weapons reportedly stopped several passing trucks on National Highway 62 near Rangeberam village in East Garo Hills and began collecting money forcibly.
A police patrol team came across the gang while the robbery was in progress and on being challenged the dacoits made an attempt to flee during which police opened fire killing one of the criminals while the other two escaped.
The deceased has been identified as Rakseng Momin (19) hailing from Rongjeng area of East Garo Hills.
Police recovered a dummy gun resembling a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) from his possession.
