SHILLONG: Chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Women Theilin Phanbuh has observed that there is a need to set up a fast track court to speed up trial of cases relating to crimes against women.
Speaking at the launch of the support group for women, she said, “Fast track courts were set up earlier but its function was ceased after funds from the Centre stopped. The state government should find ways and means to restart the court for the benefit of women.”
Phanbuh also urged for coordination from traditional institutions, government departments in its venture to support women in need.
The launch of the support group for women was welcomed with pomp and show in which young men and women took to the streets of Laitumkhrah, heralding a change with the launch of the support group.
