NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner C.P. Gotmare on Monday conducted a meeting with government and bank officials to discuss various issues affecting the people of the district post the Centre’s demonetisation move.
In order to ease the inconvenience faced by people Gotmare suggested various measures such as widespread awareness about genuineness of 10-ruppee coins, use of approved declaration for depositing amount above Rs 50,000, opening of bank account for job-card holders, last date for depositing of demonetised currency notes and extension of network of banking correspondents to serve rural areas.
Observing that many in the district may not have PAN cards, he urged banks to use the declarations under Form 60 for non-agricultural income and Form 61 for agricultural income to deposit amounts exceeding Rs 50,000. He also urged the banks to open new accounts. “As deposits above Rs 50,000 cannot be made in a PMJDY account, a separate joint account opening may be facilitated,” he said.
He also urged the banks to make people aware that the demonetised Rs 500 and Rs.1000 are fully legal for depositing into bank accounts till December 30 and that Rs 500 notes can be used for making payments at government hospitals, toll plaza, petrol pumps etc. till December 15.
He also directed Supply department officials to explore the possibility of interested FPS Dealers to be appointed as banking correspondents. “Also the post office should operate micro-ATMs so that people can avail cash using their debit cards at post offices,” he said. Gotmare directed the banks to share the details of dormant PMJDY accounts to the BDOs, who shall try to get such dormant accounts active through public awareness by Gram Sevaks.
