SHILLONG: The State Health and Family Welfare department is aggressively working on the tender document to implement phase III of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) at the earliest.
Sources on Monday informed that the tender was issued twice but was cancelled on both occasions.
The department is now working on a fresh tender document for early implementation of the scheme.
However, publication of the tender document is being delayed in view of the model code of conduct for the December 13 by-election to the KHADC and the JHADC.
Sources informed that one new component of MHIS phase III is that senior citizens would be entitled to get additional benefits of Rs 30000 in excess of the fixed benefit of Rs 2 lakh.
In addition, phase III of the state health cover may include all members of a family as the government is contemplating removal of the existing limit on family members.
The scheme covers 210 hospitals, including 109 primary health centres, 15 private and 44 private hospitals outside the State.
It may be mentioned that MHIS is a convergence of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana and other schemes in the State.
