SHILLONG: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma is optimistic that the State Sports Policy will be adopted by February-March next year. IIM-Shillong was entrusted with drafting the state sports policy and it submitted the copy. Addressing the media on Tuesday, the minister said, “There will be a working group comprising officials and members of the Sports and Youth Affairs department, different sports associations and Meghalaya State Olympic Association who will be involved as they will verify the draft. There will be a presentation to the cabinet members.”
A workshop will be organised on December 19 to make the officials, the State Olympic Association and members of sports associations aware of the contents of the draft policy, Sangma said, adding, “After the workshop it (draft policy) will be uploaded on the website. It will probably be in the final stage in February-March.”
Hard copies of the draft policy will be sent to legislators.
Inviting views and opinions of people from the sports fraternity, Sangma said they will be given 45-60 days to give suggestions and it will be studied before incorporation.
The minister said after the sports policy, the Department will look towards drafting the state youth policy that will again be drafted by IIM-Shillong.
