SHILLONG: The Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, and a top functionary of NEEPCO have drawn flak for their alleged attempt to stop AG West Kharkongor from becoming the Chairman and Managing director (CMD) of the company.
In response to the news report in The Shillong Times, the KSU in a statement issued to the media on Monday said it is a cause for concern that the Gohain, who was then the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on welfare of other backward classes (OBC) had sought the intervention of the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) with the sole objective to stop Kharkongor from becoming NEEPCO CMD and that there was a connivance with a top official functionary of NEEPCO who was also vying for the post of CMD.
“From the newspaper revelations, it is clear that there was a serious attempt by some  people with vested interest to prevent A.G West Kharkongor from becoming the CMD. The Union takes the action of this particular NEEPCO official as an act which is inimical to the interest of the Khasi people in particular and the corporation in general,” said a joint statement issued by KSU president Daniel Khyriem and general secretary Auguster Jyrwa.
The KSU also wanted to know from where Gohain got all the personal information of Kharkongor and what were the reasons for Gohain to take a special interest for his removal.
As there are indications of alleged collusion of a NEEPCO functionary with Gohain, the KSU wanted to know who the top functionary of NEEPCO is who doesn’t want to reveal his identity.
“In the light of the revelations, the union condemns the action of Rajen Gohain, the then Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on welfare of other backward classes and also the top functionary of NEEPCO who indulged in these unscrupulous action and warned people with vested interest to desist from all these unwarranted practices, and if they don’t want to work in Meghalaya, they are free to leave the state,” the statement added.
