SHILLONG: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ready with its broom to sweep away corruption from politics in Meghalaya.
With an eye on the 2018 Assembly elections, AAP has launched its ‘Campaign for Transformation’ that aims at bringing a corruption-free government.
Speaking to media persons during the launching of the campaign here on Monday, AAP legal cell secretary Peter A Dohkrut said the party is ready to serve the State on the basis of true principles of democracy.
The party, through its campaign, will seek support for bringing a people’s government, ending corruption, ensuring accountability, transparency and governance with competency, Dohkrut said.
“Please don’t sell yourself… A person who buys you with money will also sell you for money,” he said while conveying the message of the campaign.
On the educational qualification of the people’s representatives, the AAP legal cell secretary said the minimum requirement to contest elections should be graduation.
“It is an irony that we are still sending MLAs who are not even qualified to teach in primary schools to the Assembly to make laws for people. Are we not fooling ourselves,” he said.
AAP state general secretary W Lapang said the party is already spreading its units in many districts of Meghalaya. AAP has printed over 10,000 pamphlets to drive home its message of clean politics.
