RKM remembers U Soso Tham

SHILLONG: U Soso Tham, the legendary Khasi poet was remembered in his birthplace on Saturday. Ramakrishna Mission, Cherrapunjee, organised a programme, Ka Soso Tham play day, to make the youth aware of his poems on the occasion of the poet’s death anniversary on Sunday.
Students from 40 schools run by Ramakrishna Mission presented a synchronised demonstration of callisthenics, thematic martial arts and kids’ yoga. They also presented poems written by Soso Tham.
In the programme, Khasi war dance with Phawar and sowing, harvesting and feasting dances with specially designed Khasi songs were also presented by the students.
Speaking to media persons during the programme, Swami Anuragananda, who is the Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Cherrapunjee, said the programme was organised to honour the great poet U Soso Tham as well as to encourage the students of lower primary schools to take part in free hand exercise and yoga.
“Most of the songs which were presented had a traditional element and we want children to learn in a playful manner,” he told reporters.
The commandant of the BSF 123rd battalion, Vijay Kumar Singh, was the chief guest on the occasion. Parents of the performers were also present.
