SHILLONG: The HYC, Nongtung Circle, Block 2, led a 12-hour sit-in demonstration on the premises of State Central Library demanding that the government resolve the border issues with Assam.
Hercules Suting, president of HYC Nongtung Circle, said, “The people of the village are aggrieved as the Assam government has not resolved the border issue. There was constant harassment by the Assam Police.”
He alleged that militant groups extort the local populace.
“The State did not pay heed to our pleas to resolve the border issues and to demarcate boundary lines. The border issues are pending even  after 44 years,” said Suting.
Asserting that it is the starting point of the agitation, Suting alleged that the Nepalese residents and the Assam government collude to obstruct development.
Suting claimed that Assam Police dismantled the Dorbar Hall on December 19 at Tyrso Umru, which was built by the State Government.
“Over 15 Assam police personnel threatened the labourers there.”
“Development faces hurdles after obstructions from the Assam government. The Assam government disrespected the status quo that was, however, upheld by the State
