Calls for development of poor citizens of State

SHILLONG: On his maiden visit to Shillong, the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Labour & Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, interacted with local people here at Rynjah.
In a rare gesture, the 69-year-old minister climbed a short incline leading up to a cottage occupied by a Nepalese family. Other officers followed the Minister to greet the family of Vishnu Maya Tamang.
When asked by reporters on his impression, he said, “There is no lighting.” The family told him that water supply is not a problem.
The Minister and his officers interacted with the family. He called a girl and asked her, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The girl giggled and replied, “Doctor.”
Dattatreya gave the Class VII girl a word of advice, “Do not go for early marriage.”
On the other hand, during the programme, Dattatreya lauded the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Our PM wants to take India forward in the world map and that is why he is taking new initiatives. You have seen the industry,” the Minister said.
demonetisation move has taken place on November 8. Its purpose is to see that corruption should be rooted out.”
The Union Minister observed that every penny for development should go to the poor citizens of Meghalaya as well as to the North East taking the entire region on the developmental route.
Dattatreya observed that despite India’s 60 years of independence, the northeastern region is backward “though highly educated people are here”.
“I am proud to see our (J.M.) Lyngdoh who was the (Chief) Election Commissioner who is now settled in my native place in Hyderabad, we are proud of him and Meghalaya,” he said.
