NONGPOH: At a time when crime against women has seen a spurt in the State, former chief minister D.D Lapang on Sunday said women play a pivotal role in building the society.
Addressing the gathering at a programme in the community hall of Sajer organised by a local women’s group here, Lapang urged the Dorbar and the local youth and women’s body to work together to maintain peace in Nongpoh, “which is the gateway to Meghalaya”.  The local MLA and chief advisor to the State Government also lauded the women’s group for its endeavour to maintain peace and unity in the locality.
The president of Seng Longkmie Nongpoh Pyllun, Meristella Lamare, said, “We can eliminate all anti-social elements in the village if locals and village leaders along with the Dorbar Shnong come together to fight for the betterment and welfare of the people here.”
