1st Native Fiesta to be held in Ri Bhoi in March

Festival to promote tourism, culture

NONGPOH: With an aim to promote tourism in the State, the first ever Native Fiesta 2017, a festival showcasing the identity, culture, local societies, cuisines, organic products, handicrafts etc., of the indigenous people, will be held in Ri Bhoi in March.
The festival, which will also focus on the all-round development of the locals of Ri Bhoi, will be organised by the Ri Bhoi Tourism & Environmental Development Forum (RBTEDF) in collaboration with departments of Tourism and Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya, the North Eastern Council, Ministry for Development of North East Region, Government of India and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The Native Fiesta will be held at Orchid lake resort, Umiam.
Various tourist spots of Meghalaya will be highlighted during the event which is expected to be a cultural extravaganza.
Known personalities and achievers will be recognized during the festival which will celebrate their contribution to the State.
To make the festival more attractive, various events like folk dance competition, cultural/folk songs competition, modern song competition, indigenous musical instrument competition, flower shows, cycling competition etc., will also be organised.  The organisers are expecting visitors from across the state and country to descend on the fest.
