Status report on steps being taken for restoration of environment, adoption of safe mining rules
SHILLONG: The State government will submit the status report on the steps being taken for the restoration of environment and safeguards while carrying out mining activities to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday.
The matter will come up for hearing before NGT on January 31 and the Supreme Court may take up the pending matter on January 16.
Supreme Court lawyer and the state counsel in Delhi, Ranjan Mukherjee, said over phone that varied aspects related to mining plan and guidelines have already been mentioned in the status report.
According to Mukherjee, there cannot be any general mining plan as it should be mine specific.
“Only after mining starts, the mine-specific plan can be initiated and there cannot be any separate mining plan,” Mukherjee added.
As on September 21 last, out of 30 lakh metric tonnes of extracted coal, approximately 10 lakh metric tonnes of coal were transported.
Transportation of the remaining 20 lakh metric tonnes of coal is going on and the deadline given by NGT to complete the transportation of coal is till May this year.
The revenue in terms of environment protection fund and royalty collected from October last till date is around Rs 60 crore.
