SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has announced a sit-in protest on January 24 and 25 against NIOS’s “reluctance in rectifying discrepancies in 2013 results”.
MSSASA, which includes SSA, ad hoc and deficit teachers in elementary schools, has demanded that the validity of the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EL.ED) be extended.
The association’s president, Aristotle Rymbai, said, “The date to fill the forms for re-examination in failed subjects should be given before January 23.”
There were anomalies in the results of the first batch of D.EL.ED candidates announced on September 9, 2016, after a nine-month delay.
The MSSASA sit-in will be from 11 am-2 pm in front of the NIOS office at the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) in Laitumkhrah.
H.M Marbaniang, general secretary of the association, contended that NIOS’s negligence has affected 4,385 teachers. “The delay in declaring results has taken away our rights in getting our benefits from the State Government,” he said.
Marbaniang said a delegation had met the NIOS chairman, Bhushan Sharma, in December 2013 at the NIOS headquarters in Noida. “Sharma assured us that the discrepancies would be rectified but till date nothing has been done,” he added.
Marbaniang said the sit-in demonstration is only the beginning and more protests will follow if NIOS does not show readiness.
