SHIILONG: The police will write to the director of health services about constituting a medical board to find out whether one of the accused in the Mawryngkneng gang rape case is feigning illness.
City SP Vivek Syiem said on Wednesday that the medical board will help police ascertain what Sordar Peter Lawai, who was arrested for abetting the rapists of a 17-year-old girl, is suffering from.
Lawai and Goldenstar Mukhim, the Rangbah Dong of Mawmang, were recently arrested for helping the rapists of a minor girl.
Syiem told the reporters, “We want to know as to whether he is feigning sickness or is he trying to evade the investigation.”
Lawai is lodged in Civil Hospital, Shillong. Mukhim has been remanded to three-day judicial custody since Monday.
