GNLA denies death of Sohan’s cousin

 TURA: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has denied the death of a second senior cadre during the encounter with police SWAT commandos at Nengmandalgre, 6 kms from Williamnagar on October 19 morning.

SWAT commandos shot dead Dilseng alias Bashish, a close cousin of GNLA army chief Sohan D Shira and there were reports another cousin had succumbed to injuries sustained from the attack.

However, GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma has denied media reports about the death of Gabrial alias Dalwin, who happened to be one of the personal security officers of Sohan D Shira. “There have been reports indicating the death of Gabriel but he is accounted for in the group. There is no truth in the saying,” said GNLA chairman Champion alias Pakchara.

Interestingly, the recent seizure of over four kg IED explosive hidden inside a milk can from a vehicle entering Garo Hills at Kukurkata on the Assam-Meghalaya Border near Bajengdoba has been dismissed by the Garo militant group.

“There is no reason for us to bring explosives from Assam and moreover Garos do not carry around milk cans. Only north Indians and army personnel do that. It is a false accusation by army personnel. We are not a party to it,” Champion added.
